Kai Vogel aka KAI VOGEL
Featured fighter · Oceanic Martial Arts Academy, QLD

I first met Kai at a fight show earlier this year, where he'd stepped up to take a fight on less than a weeks notice. It was his last amateur fight, and more recently I watched his pro debut. Since then he's been really supportive of what I'm doing with No Ragrets, and he's someone I'm happy to run into at a fight show. He's still early in his professional journey, it's been pretty cool to see his progression so far and I'm really looking forward to seeing where fighting takes him next.

BEFORE THE FIGHT
How did you first get into combat sports, and what made you stick with it?
I started my martial arts journey when I was very young as my dad ran his own gym and still does to this day. I stuck with it because it has been a part of my whole life and I couldn’t imagine a life without martial arts.
WHEN HE KNEW HE WANTED TO FIGHT
When did you realise you actually wanted to fight?
I realised I wanted to fight after watching my coach Daniel Cook fight and after coming back from time off, having my first fight back, sitting backstage afterwards full of excitement and adrenaline that I just couldn’t shake.
THE JOURNEY
What’s something about your journey that you’re particularly proud of?
Currently I’m particularly proud of the fact that I’m jumping back into the ring as an adult and not only that, as a pro, after having a long layoff after I decided to flip my whole life upside down and head out bush and chase cows, build hundreds of kilometres of fences and yards for a few years.
THE FIGHTER
How would you describe yourself as a fighter?
Calm, resilient, tough and adaptive.
NEVER QUIT
What’s something fighting has taught you that you probably wouldn’t have learned anywhere else?
Fighting has taught me to have a never-quit attitude and anything worth doing is worth doing at 100%.
MORE THAN A FIGHT
What’s something people on the outside probably don’t understand about being a fighter?
Something that people on the outside might not understand would be that fighting is a lifestyle and takes up a lot of time and energy.
THE FIGHTS THAT STICK
Is there a fight or moment in your career that really sticks with you?
All of it sticks with me, I just love to learn.
NO RAGRETS
How did you first come across No Ragrets, you’ve supported the brand from pretty early on — what made you want to get behind it?
I first came across No Ragrets watching Andee fighting on the same cards as I was, and I loved how she had the same never-quit attitude, plus the designs from No Ragrets are unique that I haven’t seen before.
WHAT'S NEXT
What are you chasing at the moment, both in fighting and outside of it?
Inside the ring I’m chasing a WBC title and outside the ring help continue on my father’s footsteps and build a strong and family-oriented martial arts gym.
THE ADVICE
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
One piece of advice to my younger self would have been: don’t stop, keep fighting.
